ConAgra Foods� Parkay� brand is bringing back its iconic �Talking Tub� in television ads touting a new formulation of Parkay table spread made with real nonfat milk. The new product is the only entry in the �margarine/table spreads� category to include milk as an ingredient. The new ad will also mark the 35th anniversary of the first appearance of Parkay�s Talking Tub on TV. The new 15-second ad, titled �Barn,� will air nationally starting today. The ad features a dairy farmer walking into his barn to the familiar sound of cows mooing. The farmer is startled to hear an unusual moo, and he discovers the Parkay Talking Tub in one of the stalls. The voiceover calls out that the new Parkay is made with milk �for a fresh and creamy taste.� The ad�s ending strikes a familiar and classic tone, as the Talking Tub tells the farmer the new Parkay is �better.� The farmer responds, �You mean �butter,�� to which the tub responds, �Parkay.� �The Parkay Talking Tub is a classic, iconic figure that Americans know and love,� said Karl Sears, vice president and general manager, ConAgra Foods. �It�s the perfect ambassador to tout our new Parkay made with real nonfat milk. We�re confident Parkay�s new taste and texture will exceed their expectations.� �Barn� is scheduled to run nationally on both daytime and cable television, as well as online. The Parkay Talking Tub was first used in television advertising in 1973. Over the years, the tub has appeared in advertising with celebrities such as Laurel and Hardy (1982), Deacon Jones (1983), William Daniels (1990-91), Crystal Bernard (1997) and Al Franken (1999). The Talking Tub has been silent for six years, however, as 2002 marked the last national campaign.
