Brazilian, Portuguese and Spanish companies will bid to build
501 kilometers of electricity transmission lines in Brazil, the
South American country's electric regulator said Thursday.
The companies--six from Brazil, three from Spain and one from
Portugal--were given the green light to compete at the auction
Friday to build the transmission lines, the regulator known as
Aneel said on its website.
The lines, to be built in the northeastern states of Rio Grande
do Norte, Ceara and Bahia, are divided into three lots. The
transmission lines will likely require 300 million Brazilian reals
($172 million) in investment, Aneel said.
The Brazilian companies taking part are Iberdrola SA (IBDRY)
unit Neoenergia SA; Neoenergia subsidiary Afluente Transmissao de
Energia Eletrica; Alupar Investimento; Cia. Hidro Eletrica do Sao
Francisco, or Chesf, as the unit of state-controlled utility
Eletrobras (EBR, ELET6.BR) is known; and Transmissora Alianca de
Energia Eletrica, a unit of Taesa, the company recently acquired by
state-controlled Cemig (CIG, CMIG4.BR). Arm Telecomunicacoes e
Servicos de Engenharia will work with Portugal's CME Construcao
& Manutencao Eletromecanica.
Spanish companies include Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, Cymi
Holding and Elecnor Transmissao de Energia.
