BMC Software Continues Support for Current and Future Versions of
DB2 Universal Database for z/OS Unveils Nine-Month Roadmap of DB2
Universal Database Version 8-Supported SmartDBA Data Management
Solutions HOUSTON, March 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BMC Software,
Inc. , a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today
announced its continued support for current and future versions of
DB2 Universal Database (UDB) for z/OS. In anticipation of the
impending release of IBM's DB2 UDB for z/OS Version 8 (V8), BMC
Software is unveiling its nine-month roadmap of DB2 UDB for z/OS
V8-supported SmartDBA data management solutions that span the areas
of performance, administration and recovery. BMC Software's timely
support is intended to coincide with its customers' deployment
schedules, ensuring the mission critical solutions they rely upon
from BMC Software are available as they migrate to this new
version. BMC Software customer, The European Patent Office, relies
on timely support from its vendors. "With the demand for European
patents rising, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to
maintain the integrity and availability of our online information
and service systems. Migrating to new platforms further complicates
matters," saidPhilippe J. Herman, DB2 systems administrator,
European Patent Office. "The ability to extend our BMC data
management solutions as we migrate to DB2 UDB V8 on the mainframe
should enable us to maintain the level of availability and
reliability that our users have become accustomed to. We are
looking forward to achieving the same great benefits as we continue
to see our data grow." As an active participant in IBM's DB2 UDB
for z/OS V8 Early Support Program, BMC Software has been working
with IBM and DB2 UDB mainframe customers worldwide since fall 2002
in preparation for this release. BMC Software has also conducted
numerous worldwide customer surveys to better understand its
customers' planned deployment schedules and the functionality they
require. The information gathered was used to prioritize resources
to ensure the SmartDBA data management solutions deemed most
critical by customers support DB2 V8 in approximately 90 days of
its general availability release. "Today's business climate
requires performance at every level. This is especially true when
it comes to the technology infrastructure. IT must be continuously
available to support the business, particularly when it comes to
gathering and sharing business critical data," said Bill Miller,
vice president and general manager, Enterprise Data Management, BMC
Software. "Timely support of new versions, such as our support of
DB2 UDB V8 on the mainframe, is vital. By allowing for faster
migration, we are reducing downtime for optimized performance and
availability of the databases that power businesses." Nine Months
At-A-Glance BMC Software will deliver 20 products within its
performance, administration and recovery solutions that support DB2
UDB for z/OS V8 in approximately 90days of its release. A second
and third wave of products that support this release will be
delivered within six months and nine months respectively.
Additional functionality, automation and integration into the
SmartDBA family of data management solutions will be added in
parallel with this support. For a copy of BMC Software's DB2 UDB
