BMC Software (NYSE:BMC) today announced a major new offering in its BMC Batch Impact Manager solution, which dramatically reduces the time needed to resolve IT bottlenecks in batch environments, thereby enabling customers to deliver their business services faster and more efficiently.

Unique in today’s marketplace, BMC Batch Impact Manager offers the only batch-processing tool that not only can predict problems before they happen and recommend ways to avoid them, but also provides ways to fix the issues completely. With 70 percent of the world’s business transactions occurring in batch, enabling IT to identify and remedy problems immediately is critical to delivering business services. A typical batch environment runs 24 hours a day seven days a week and involves huge amounts of data critical to multiple parts of the business. Batch-related delays and failures can affect the completion time and accuracy of core business processes.

Enterprises in a variety of industries rely on batch processing for mission-critical behind-the-scenes operations, including banks automating funds transfers; manufacturers streamlining production; and retailers automating payments to suppliers. Additionally, payroll, inventory management, order processing and procurement processes also rely heavily on batch processing.

In such a complex environment, it can be difficult to notice when a process fails and whether that failure creates a direct harm to customers or to the business. Now, when a critical process fails, the BMC Batch Impact Manager solution not only alerts the IT staff, telling them what happened and what will occur if they don’t fix it, but it also provides step-by-step instructions on various ways to resolve the problem.

While failures can be devastating to an enterprise, delays are far more common and have negative effects as well. The BMC Batch Impact Manager solution uses real-time and statistical information on job-execution times to predict when delays will occur, and provides recommendations for how to bypass them altogether.

BMC Batch Impact Manager works with BMC’s CONTROL-M software, the industry-leading workload automation solution, offering businesses the ability to adapt to the speed of business when minutes count.

Today’s announcement also includes new updates to BMC CONTROL-M. The solution now automates database processes -- a critical capability as well-maintained databases are the cornerstone of delivering business services. By integrating database transactions into the enterprise workload automation environment, the BMC CONTROL-M for Databases solution guarantees on-time processing and availability of business information.

For Sun Chemical, the world’s largest producer of printing inks and organic pigments, BMC’s CONTROL-M enabled the company to quadruple its complex environment of batch jobs while reducing staff time and cost. Sun Chemical manages batch processes for more than 60 locations that span across 15 countries in three continents around the globe.

"Products manufactured by Sun Chemical touch virtually everyone's life. From magazines and consumer packaging to toys, automotive paints and cosmetics, Sun Chemical brings nature's vivid palette of colors to people around the world," said Sonny Samarakoon, technology lead for SAP implementation at Sun Chemical. "We use batch management for a multitude of purposes, including generating the right chemical combinations, issuing invoices, making sure we ship the right product on time, paying our vendors and updating our human resource files. With BMC’s CONTROL-M, we have improved productivity and reduced errors and delays, which not only saves us money but also allows us to stay focused on our core business."

Samarakoon continued, saying, “BMC Batch Impact Manager provides strong capabilities that will further enable us to deliver our business services.”

By avoiding delays and process failures, the BMC Batch Impact Manager solution helps its customers optimize staff productivity and focus on tasks that keep the business running at its best – a core component of BMC’s Business Service Management strategy to align IT functions with customers’ greater business goals.

“The new BMC Batch Impact Manager expands on the strengths of the previous version,” said Bill Miller, president of Mainframe Service Management at BMC. “Now, instead of simply identifying delays or failures, it will tell our customers what they need to do to solve the problem. That’s a first for the industry, and it will dramatically improve our customers’ operational efficiencies.”

BMC’s CONTROL-M software was positioned in the Leaders Quadrant in the 2009 Gartner Magic Quadrant report. Click here to access the full report.
