DALLAS, Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE:
BLC), one of the nation's largest pure-play, publicly traded
television companies, announced today that Michael Valentine has been named vice
president/Content. In this newly created role, Valentine will
direct news content strategies across multiple platforms for the
Company's 15 television markets. He will also help explore
additional digital opportunities for new and existing content.
Belo also announced the promotion of Joe
Weir to vice president/Digital. In this role, Joe will
continue his interactive leadership for the Company as well as lead
Belo's future digital initiatives and new product launches.
Most recently, Valentine served as vice president/News at
WFAA-TV, Belo's ABC station in Dallas/Fort Worth. During his tenure,
WFAA received many accolades for its investigative reporting
including two George Foster Peabody Awards, two National Edward R.
Murrow Awards and three duPont-Columbia Silver Baton Awards.
WFAA made history in 2008 as the only local news station to ever
receive the prestigious duPont-Columbia Gold Baton.
Since 2009, Weir has served as Belo's general
manager/Interactive. He was previously internet manager/Sales
at WFAA and was later promoted to director/Digital Media in 2008.
Under Weir's leadership wfaa.com was honored with a National
Edward R. Murrow Award for online innovation in 2008. Weir
was also named one of six "Digital All-Stars" in 2010 by
Broadcasting & Cable magazine.

Valentine joined Belo in 2002 as executive news director at
WVEC-TV, Belo's ABC station in Hampton/Norfolk and moved to WFAA in
2005. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the
University of Vermont and a Master's
degree from Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.
Prior to joining WFAA, Weir was the Senior Online Account
Executive for Belo Interactive from 2000 to 2005. Before that
he worked for The Dallas Morning News in sales from 1996 to
2000. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Hardin-Simmons University where he was recognized
as an "Outstanding Young Alumnus" in 2009.
