NORTHBROOK, Ill., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Allstate Insurance Company issued the following statement in support of the findings of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety study indicating support among parents for graduated driver licensing (GDL) laws.

"An alarming number of teens—roughly 4,000—die each year in teen-related auto accidents.  That's an average of 11 each day.  These are teens whose lives could have been saved and whose families could have been spared heartbreak if stronger teen driving laws were in place.

"Allstate has been working with Congressional leaders to advance uniform graduated driver licensing (GDL) standards, as outlined in the STANDUP Act (H.R. 1895 and S. 3269), as a way to help new drivers gain valuable experience under supervised and less risky conditions behind the wheel.

"The IIHS study reinforces what we already know—that parents support stronger GDL laws because they save lives.  In fact, in states with strong GDL laws, studies have shown these laws reduce teen crash fatalities by up to 40 percent.  We applaud IIHS for helping to raise awareness among parents about the value of providing young people the right educational tools and experience to become more alert, seasoned drivers."
