This year, the Best of CES Awards will recognize the hottest products at the show in twelve categories, plus Best of Show and People's Voice. "Each year, the Best of CES Awards recognize the products and companies that are setting the standard by which all other products are measured," said Karen Chupka, vice president of events and conferences at CEA, the producer of the International CES. "CNET does a wonderful job of covering the breadth and depth of the International CES. We're confident their editors' choices will exemplify the hottest products at the upcoming show." "Each year, our editorial team scours the show floor for the products that represent unmatched innovation and creativity, and this year will be no different. CNET editors will select three finalists in each of the twelve categories. In addition, the CNET editors will also select one product for the Best of Show award, which recognizes the top product among the twelve winners of the Best of CES 2006 Awards. Using an online voting system promoted across CNET Networks' family of web properties, including CNET Download.com, CNET News.com, GameSpot, Webshots, MP3.com, TV.com, and ZDNet, tens of millions of people will have the opportunity to cast their vote for their favorite product at CES, providing an indication into what products could do well in the marketplace in 2006 and beyond. CNET Editors will review each entry based on the following criteria: -0- *T -- The product must be new to the extent that it will officially be announced to begin shipping after December 1, 2005. Prototypes, reference designs, or products that represent a proof of concept will not be considered, except in the Emerging technologies category. -- The product must be on exhibit at the 2006 International CES in Las Vegas. -- The product will be judged on its promise to: -- Pioneer a new category, establish an emerging category, or take an existing category to a new level -- Excite consumers with its style, innovation, usefulness, ease of use, and/or capacity to entertain -- Endow its owner with a certain cachet -- the "cool" factor -- Work readily with other products in a consumer's life -- Make its way into everyday life *T The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2005 and there is no cost to submit. Finalists will be announced on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at 5 p.m. live on the CNET Stage in the South Hall lobby.
