Verint® Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: VRNT) today announced that it will coordinate the first FP7 Emergency Support System (ESS) field trial. In its role of the initiator and coordinator of the ESS project, Verint will participate, together with the other partners of the program, in the real-life testing of the ESS framework products and technologies for real-life crisis management situations.

The ESS project is supported by the European Framework Program Seven (FP7). The objective of ESS is to develop a suite of real-time, data-centric technologies focused on providing web-based actionable intelligence to crisis managers during atypical event scenarios. Such information can enable improved control and management, resulting in real-time synchronization between forces on the ground (police, rescue teams and fire fighters) and out-of-the-theatre command and control centers (C&C). Verint is a leading global provider of situation management, video intelligence, and mobile messaging and location technologies in the ESS framework.

The ESS prototype includes a collection of products and technologies from 12 industrial organizations, including Verint, Alcatel-Lucent, Aeronautics, Algosystems and others. It also includes three research institutes and three potential end users, including CEREN, the French Research Center for the Mediterranean Forest. CEREN is also the organizer of the Nîmes Stadium field trial, on behalf of the ESS Consortium, and in cooperation with local and regional services and authorities, including Nîmes Prefecture (COD), Gard Department Fire Service (CODIS 30), French Police (CIC), City of Nîmes, Meteo-France and Autoroute du Sud de la France (ASF).

“The first ESS field test is planned to take place in the Stade des Costieres in Nîmes, France,” says Gideon Hazzani, ESS project coordinator and director of business development for Verint Communications and Cyber Intelligence Solutions™. “The event will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2012 and will be based on a flood event crisis scenario in the area where the Stade des Costieres is located. The purpose of this event is to demonstrate and validate the potential contribution and performance of the ESS system in crisis management operations.”

The ESS project will later hold a series of field tests simulating a variety of emergency and crisis scenarios, including a cross-border (Italy-France) air-crash incident in the mountains followed by a mass forest fire, and an accident involving a truck carrying dangerous chemicals leaching to a nearby river. All field tests are planned to take place during 2012 and 2013.
