Verint® Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: VRNT) today announced that Security Technology Executive (STE) magazine has named Verint Video Intelligence Solutions™ and customer the Port of Los Angeles its “2010 Security Innovation Award” gold medal winner.

Those honored in the Sixth Annual Security Innovation Awards, which are designed to recognize the most innovative use of technology and services in the security industry, were selected by the media outlet and a panel of industry experts. Verint and the Port of Los Angeles’ case study submission showcased the port’s innovative transformation from disparate systems to a multi-layered security platform leveraging the Nextiva® IP video portfolio from Verint to help secure its vast 43 miles of waterfront and land-based facilities.

Profiled as being among the best, most effective implementations and security technology solutions, STE Editor in Chief Steve Lasky comments, “The Port of Los Angeles is a forerunner in leveraging advanced, integrated technology and among the world’s most innovative in terms of security measures.” The publication’s September issue goes on to note that the port is “known for its ground-breaking environmental initiatives, progressive security measures, and diverse recreational and education facilities” and “armed with advanced technology and an innovative Threat Detection Center, [it] stands on the cutting edge of the security landscape.”

As the busiest port in the United States by container volume, the Port of Los Angeles serves as America’s premier gateway for goods and services, and a thriving center for global commerce. As such, it invested in the most innovative and cutting-edge technology in the market. The port uses Nextiva’s enterprise-class video security platform to help increase situational awareness, enhance safety and security, and improve emergency preparedness and response across its operation. With Nextiva, it is able to collect vast amounts of information and provide security and emergency management staff with timely intelligence about events of genuine importance.

“The Port of Los Angeles recognizes the national security and economic value it delivers,” states Don Farrell, captain of the Los Angeles Port of Police. “We strive to be the best in the nation and at the forefront of deploying technology to make the port safe and secure, while ensuring the efficient flow of cargo. Receiving this recognition is a great honor and testament to our commitment and focus in this area.”

With Verint’s Nextiva Video Management software, the Port of Los Angeles can easily integrate with other technology vendors to manage its large, geographically-distributed operations more efficiently and cost-effectively. The port also is benefitting from the solution’s integrated analytics that enhance the security of its expansive waterfront and perimeters by creating custom detection rules that help safeguard its tangible and virtual perimeters. Additionally, it uses Nextiva wireless devices that transmit high-quality images from the locations it manages to its central Threat Detection Center.

“Being part of these distinguished honors for the second consecutive year and in a way that showcases longtime Verint customer the Port of Los Angeles for its forward-thinking approach is a great honor and underscores the tangible value customers receive through Verint’s Nextiva video intelligence solutions,” adds Elan Moriah, president, Verint Video Intelligence Solutions and Verint Witness Actionable Solutions®.
