primarily posting positive as 11 of the 15 markets that we track
are above water. Strangely enough both Switzerland and Sweden seem
satisfied to stay "neutral" around their flat lines. Trade in Japan
returned overnight with the Nikkei advancing by almost 94 points.
The cumulative average return on the group stands at a positive
0.410 percent. A key indicator on the health of the Japanese
economic recovery improved in December. Core machinery orders
rebounded by 8.1 percent in the month, exceeding expectations for a
more modest 1.9 percent rise. December offered up a reversal from
November's 7.8 percent decline. A sizable amount of economic data
before the market open today could whet traders' appetites. January
Retail and Food Sales are seen declining slightly to a plus 0.1
percent from December's 0.5 percent advance. Take autos sales out
of the equation and sales are seen rising by a more substantial 0.6
percent compared to the prior month's 0.1 percent rise. The number
that you want to pay close attention to is sales without gasoline
and auto. This is a truer reflection of consumer discretionary
spending and would take precedence over the consumer sentiment and
confidence surveys in judging the mood of the U.S. consumer.
Analysts do not offer up an estimate on this figure, but in
December it rose by 0.2 percent. Sharing the early hour, Initial
Jobless Claims for the week ending February 7 are seen declining by
11,000. In the prior week, initial claims surprised to the upside
with a rise of 17,000 to a seasonally adjusted 356,000 on
expectations for a decline of 2,000. The four- week moving average
was unchanged at 345,250 in that prior week. At 10:00 a.m., a
second appearance by Fed Chairman Greenspan as the Fed Chair
delivers the semi-annual Fed-policy report to the U.S. Senate
Banking committee in Washington. His comments should mirror
yesterday's comments and there should be no market-moving
surprises. Probably going largely unnoticed, December Business
Inventories share the Greenspan timeframe and are expected to have
risen by 0.2 percent, slightly off of the prior month's plus 0.3
percent pace. Be prepared for the investing week ahead with Bernie

MARKET OPPORTUNITIES Just six weeks into 2004 and we already have
one of the defining issues of the year: Computer viruses/identity
theft. Bryan Bottarelli of the Taipan Group's Value Edge investment
service has been doing some research on computer viruses. And his
conclusion isn't good. In 2003, the worldwide cost of attacks was
$82 billion. And 2004 could be the worst in history for viruses.
Studies show that 90,000 different viruses spread across the
Internet each day. One in five computers is infected -- and most
users never know it. Late Tuesday, Microsoft admitted to "critical
security flaws" in Windows NT, Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003,
leaving computers vulnerable to hackerswho could steal valuable
data. Since 90% of computers today use Microsoft operating systems,
this is an alarming statistic. This is why Microsoft has decided to
include groundbreaking new technology in their new systems, to
ensure users aren't tricked into downloading a virus disguised as
an attachment. That's why validation technology is so promising.
Once you can authenticate anything digital, crimes like ID theft
could stop. Bottarelli has identified a company whose cutting edge
technology has already been snapped up by Microsoft, and is poised
to help wipe out this threat. To read your copy of his FREE REPORT
