IEEE MTT-S - Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS), a global leader in analog, mixed signal and digital semiconductors for mobile communications applications, today unveiled a new line of cascadable amplifiers, also known as general purpose gain blocks. The SKY65000 series of highly linear amplifiers provide 50 percent more bandwidth than alternative solutions and are extremely versatile, with the ability to perform various functions ranging from RF/IF buffering to pre-driver and driver amplification. In addition, these general purpose gain blocks are able to support multiple applications, including medical equipment, test instrumentation, cellular infrastructure, broadband and military communications. "Skyworks' new family of amplifiers complements our industry-leading portfolio and further demonstrates our ability to execute on our Linear Products strategy of developing analog architectures that utilize our core capabilities, have superior gross margins and long product life cycles," said Stan A. Swearingen, vice president of Linear Products for Skyworks. "By leveraging our cellular handset IP and manufacturing expertise, we can serve a broader range of markets and obtain the same high levels of integration and reduction in footprints accomplished in the mobile platforms business." In 2004, Skyworks launched the Linear Products business unit whose goal is to aggressively leverage the company's core analog product portfolio and modeling capabilities, along with its strong catalog sales channels and specialized rep and distributor networks, in non-handset applications. Thus far, Skyworks has secured several strategic design wins in the medical, broadband, automotive and industrial markets. "Our SKY65000 series of amplifiers deliver exceptional broadband performance, and superior output power," said Jim Dempsey, product manager for Skyworks. "These are best-in-class products that enhance design capabilities and meet our customers' needs today." About the SKY65000 Family of Amplifiers The SKY65013, SKY65014, SKY65015, and SKY65016 are broadband devices with gain from 13 to 21dB, and output power (P1dB) from 14 to 19dBm. Skyworks' gain blocks have the highest output third order intercept (IP3) and gain compression points (P1dB) when compared to otherwise similar products that draw the same power supply current and operate over the same wide bandwidth. They are fully cascadable 50-Ohm impedance allowing for multiple gain blocks to be used in a chain to achieve greater power and provide excellent linearity and very low distortion, making them ideal for several wide-ranging applications. In addition, they are low noise (from 3.5 dB), achieved in large part through the use of Skyworks' state-of-the-art InGaP HBT process. Pricing and Availability Skyworks' gain block power amplifiers are offered in several industry-standard packages and are sampling now with volume production scheduled for the second half of 2005. In quantities of 10,000, the company's gain blocks range in price from $0.50 to $1.00. Skyworks at IEEE MTT-S Skyworks will be showcasing its portfolio of products at Booth #1127 at the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium and Exhibit being held June 14-16, 2005, in Long Beach.
