Overnite Tightens Transit Times Between Southern California and U.S. Southeast RICHMOND, Va., March 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overnite Transportation Company, one of the nation's leading less-than-truckload carriers, announced today it has reduced transit times to three days between Southern California and the Southeast. "These new, cross-country transit improvements will bring Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee under Overnite's three-day umbrella covering locations from Fresno to San Diego in California," said Steve Kershner, Vice President-Operations Support. "The improvements are a continuation of Overnite's ongoing efforts to reinforce a service product that saw more than 2,800 transit-time reductions in 2004," Kershner continued, noting the three-day transcontinental service to the affected states "reinforces Overnite's claim as one of the nation's leading transportation service providers." Overnite blankets Southern California through a network of seven centers located in Fresno, Bakersfield, Simi Valley, Los Angeles, Fontana, Orange County and San Diego. The five southeastern states affected by the reduced cross-country transit times are home to 35 Overnite service centers. Overnite Transportation Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Overnite Corporation (NASDAQ:OVNT), which also owns Motor Cargo Industries, Inc. Together, they form one of the largest less-than-truckload carriers in the United States with more than 200 service centers and a fleet of over 6,000 tractors and over 21,000 trailers, providing full-state coverage to all 50 states and providing customers with direct access to more than 45,000 cities in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Mexico.
