Office Depot is One of Only 20 Retail and
Consumer Products Companies to Receive a 100 Percent Rating
Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE: ODP), a leading global provider
of office products, services, and solutions, today announced
that the Company earned a 100 percent score in the 2014 Corporate
Equality Index (CEI) issued by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation
(HRC). The ranking recognizes Office Depot as one of HRC’s Best
Places to Work for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)
Equality for the third consecutive year. In addition, the Company
will be included in the HRC Foundation Employer Search, a free
online database of thousands of private and public sector U.S.
employers, and Buying for Workplace Equality 2014, a
consumer-oriented guide based on CEI ratings.
“It’s an honor to earn a perfect score on the Human Rights
Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index and be named one of
the Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality for the third year in a
row,” said Michael Allison, Executive Vice President of Human
Resources for Office Depot. “We strongly believe in providing equal
opportunities, rights and benefits to all of our associates, and we
feel it is imperative to conducting a successful business and
recruiting the best talent. Proper training and an inclusive
culture in the workplace creates a supportive environment where
LGBT employees can feel empowered to do their very best work.”
The 2014 CEI rated 934 businesses on 40 LGBT-related policies
and practices that contribute to equality in the workplace. To
achieve a perfect score and the distinction of Best Places to Work
for LGBT Equality, Office Depot had to offer non-discrimination
workplace protections, domestic partner benefits,
transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs,
and public engagement with the LGBT community.
“This will go down in history as the year that corporate support
for equality left the boardroom and reached each and every corner
of this country,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Not only do
fair-minded companies guarantee fair treatment to millions of LGBT
employees in all 50 states, but now those same companies are
fighting for full legal equality in state legislatures, in the
halls of Congress and before the U.S. Supreme Court.”
