Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced it is demonstrating a wide variety of high-definition (HD) video semiconductor solutions for broadcast-station equipment, the fiber-access infrastructure and high-performance home gateways at the NAB Show, today through April 15, 2010, in Booth #N408 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“Mindspeed’s broad product portfolio is used at nearly every stage of video content generation, distribution, transmission and consumption,” said Raouf Halim, chief executive officer of Mindspeed. “The NAB Show is the perfect venue to showcase Mindspeed’s semiconductor solutions that enable HD video content generation and distribution within a broadcast station, as well as HD video content delivery to the home and HD video sharing inside the home.”

Among Mindspeed®’s showcased products at the NAB Show is the company’s recently introduced M21170 crosspoint switch, which represents a significant leap beyond the 144x144 devices that are used in the majority of today’s large routers. The M21170 uses a single chip to create a 288x288 non-blocking matrix for a router’s switching core, replacing the four cascaded 144x144 crosspoints required to achieve the same number of inputs and outputs. This method significantly reduces the size, cost and complexity of today’s largest switchers. Mindspeed’s quadrupling of the core matrix will double this available switching capacity, enabling users to route significantly higher numbers of serial data streams.

Mindspeed is also featuring its M21004 2x2 switch and equalizer for long printed circuit board and backplane traces. The 2x2 non-blocking crosspoint switch is optimized for Serial Digital Interface (SDI) applications, and has the capability to run up to 3.2Gbps. At 36mW per channel, the M21004 offers versatility by including integrated trace equalization at the input, plus output de-emphasis, isolated input and output supply voltages, as well as an on-chip regulator.

Other featured products and demonstrations include:

  • Low-Power (SDI) Cascaded Transmission: Mindspeed is demonstrating its 144x144 crosspoint switch and low-power SDI components performing error-free transmission of the same video signal during multiple passes through a real-world SDI routing switcher application, consisting of an input/output and switch cards, along with an industry-standard backplane.
  • Optical SDI Transmission: Mindspeed is showing its family of optical physical media devices (PMDs), including laser drivers, receiver optical subassembly (ROSA) components and limiting amplifiers, as they transmit 3Gbps-SDI (3G-SDI) data across a 30-kilometer optical fiber link.
  • Broadband Home Gateways: Mindspeed is demonstrating the company’s Comcerto® 1000 packet processor in a real-world home gateway application, distributing multiple simultaneous HD video streams plus Voice-over-IP (VoIP) with no degradation in quality of experience.
  • High-Speed Integrity Solutions: Also on display are Mindspeed’s family of signal conditioners, which enable error-free, 8.5Gbps data transmission across long backplane traces.
  • Transmission Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS) Optimized Switching: Mindspeed is also demonstrating how its M21125 40x40 medium crosspoint has been optimized for operation with TMDS video signals and can simultaneously transmit multiple unrelated Digital Video Interactive (DVI) and High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) signals.

“At last year’s NAB Show, Mindspeed unveiled the world’s first, multi-channel 3G-SDI products, with the industry’s lowest power consumption,” said Kurt Busch, senior vice president and general manager of Mindspeed’s high-performance analog business unit. “This year, we continue to bring world-leading innovation to the show by demonstrating the industry’s largest monolithic switching device. The M21170 288x288 crosspoint switch is going to enable a new generation of larger video routers required by consumer demand that is driving an exponential increase in video content creation, transmission and home distribution.”
