Lam Research Foundation, the charitable-giving arm of Lam Research
Corp. (NASDAQ: LRCX), today announced a US$250,000 grant to Japan's
Ashinaga Foundation supporting orphans of the March 2011 Tōhoku
earthquake and tsunami.
The new grant, being made through U.S.-based nonprofit Give2Asia
organization, will support the construction of the Tōhoku Rainbow
House in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, which will provide
day-to-day and long-term psychological support to children who lost
their parents or whose parents were severely disabled by the
disaster. The Ashinaga Foundation is also planning satellite
facilities in Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures to provide similar
services.
The 9.0 earthquake off Japan's northeast coast claimed nearly
16,000 lives and left hundreds of children homeless. Lam Research
maintains eight offices and service centers across Japan, including
one within 75 miles of the quake's epicenter. To date, Lam Research
and its employees have donated US$550,000 to Japan earthquake
relief efforts, including two previous gifts totaling US$300,000 to
the American Red Cross.
"Lam Research is pleased to make this contribution to help the
children of Japan who lost everything in the Tōhoku disaster get
the support that they need to rebuild their lives," said Yukimasa
Yoshida, executive vice president of Lam Research Japan. "This
great disaster has touched the lives of the Lam Japan family, its
customers, partners and friends. We are grateful to be a part of
this local community and to do what we can to help this region
return to prosperity and thrive."
