Infinera Showcases Digital Architecture, Photonic Integration, 100 Gigabit Ethernet Demo at OFC
March 22 2010 - 4:04PM

Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) will showcase the advanced features and
capabilities of its Digital Optical Networks architecture in a
range of presentations and a joint demonstration with industry
partners highlighting advances in 100 Gigabit Ethernet technology
at this week's OFC/NFOEC 2010 conference.
At a presentation on Wednesday, Infinera Fellow Steve Grubb will
explain how the Infinera architecture enables service providers to
achieve greater flexibility and network efficiency, thanks to
Infinera's integrated bandwidth management and the capability of
Infinera's Bandwidth Virtualization™ to carry a wide range of
services over any Infinera infrastructure.
Driving a Truck into OFC The Infinera
Express, Infinera's 80-foot-long mobile demo unit, will be parked
on the OFC/ NFOEC show floor, with displays of leading-edge
technology. In partnership with Juniper Networks and six other
vendors, Infinera is demonstrating 100 GigE data traffic traveling
between a Juniper Networks T1600 core router and an Infinera DTN
network. The demo, using a prototype 100 Gigabit Ethernet tributary
interface module deployed on Infinera's DTN System, brings 100GigE
technology significantly closer to real-world implementation.
Infinera's demonstrations use 100 Gigabit per second (Gbps)
pluggable CFP optical transceiver modules which are available
today. The Infinera DTN 100 Gigabit Ethernet tributary interface
module in this demonstration is the latest prototype and is fully
compliant with the most recent IEEE 802.3ba draft
specification.
To showcase Infinera's end-to-end optical portfolio, the
Infinera Express also contains the new Infinera ATN metro edge
platform and the Infinera Management Suite which leverages
Infinera's digital bandwidth management and GMPLS software to offer
point-and-click provisioning and other powerful digital features on
integrated DTN-ATN networks.
In other presentations, Infinera engineers will discuss advances
in the design of photonic integrated circuits (PICs), including the
move to higher levels of integration and the use of advanced
modulation techniques in future 400 Gbps PICs.
"Infinera is a leader in the race to enable 100 Gigabit Ethernet
services, which will play an important role in meeting escalating
bandwidth demands worldwide," commented Infinera CTO Drew Perkins.
"We believe that our unique set of technologies, including
large-scale photonic integration and our software-enabled digital
architecture, combined with our partnerships with the key industry
players developing 100 Gigabit solutions, gives us a significant
advantage in meeting the demands and challenges of the next
decade."
Infinera Innovator in Photonic Integration
Recognized by OSA Infinera engineers and technologists
continue the tradition of recognition for their technological
innovations at this year's OFC. This year, Dr. Fred Kish, Infinera
Senior Vice President of Infinera's Optical Integrated Components
Group, will be named a Fellow of the Optical Society of America,
becoming the fourth Infinera team member to receive this honor.
According to the OSA, Dr. Kish is elected a Fellow for his
contributions to the development and commercialization of the first
practical (commercial) monolithic large-scale InP photonic
integrated circuits and the development and commercialization of
high-efficiency transparent-substrate AlGaInP LEDs. Dr. Kish joined
Infinera in 2001 to lead the development and commercialization of
the first large-scale commercial photonic integrated circuits. Last
year, the Infinera optical integrated components effort, managed by
a team led by Dr. Kish, produced PICs accounting for more than 40
percent of all the long-haul optical transmission capacity shipped
worldwide, according to analyst reports.
Infinera Adds to Ottawa Team with Recognized
Industry Leader, Continues to Recruit The Infinera development
team in Ottawa has been joined by John McNicol, a senior
technologist and engineer well-known for playing a leading role in
significant innovations in the wireless and optical networking
industries. Over the past decade, Mr. McNicol played an important
role in the introduction of advanced modulation techniques into
Nortel's optical systems. He will be critically involved in the
development of Infinera's next-generation optical networking
systems.
At the OFC Career Area, the Infinera human resources team will
operate a booth to recruit more industry leaders to the Infinera
engineering and manufacturing team. In addition, Infinera will host
private meetings at Infinera's company meeting rooms in the San
Diego Convention Center. Customers are invited to arrange a meeting
by contacting their Infinera representative or emailing us at
events@infinera.com.
The OFC/NFOEC conference and exhibition runs from Monday, March
22nd to Thursday March 25th at the San Diego Convention Center, San
Diego, California. A full list of all Infinera public speaking
appearances can be found at
