Cardtronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:CATM), the world's largest retail ATM owner, today announced an ATM managed services agreement with Lakewood, Colo.-based FirstBank covering the segment of its ATM network located in King Soopers grocery stores. As part of the agreement, Cardtronics has implemented all hardware upgrades necessary to bring the King Soopers portion of the $11 billion-asset bank's ATM network into compliance with revised "Americans with Disabilities Act" (ADA) regulations set to take effect in 2012. King Soopers is one of the local brand names operated by The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR), the nation's largest traditional grocery retailer.

Under the terms of the deal, FirstBank retains its ATM placement relationship with King Soopers, with Cardtronics taking over the operation and management of FirstBank's King Soopers-located ATMs. Enabling these FirstBank ATMs to be compliant with revised ADA regulations taking effect on March 15, 2012, Cardtronics efficiently executed all necessary upgrades during July to ensure FirstBank's King Soopers ATMs are accessible to the blind or visually impaired. In total, the FirstBank-Cardtronics agreement covers 89 ATMs, all located in King Soopers grocery stores scattered across Colorado.

"The Americans with Disabilities Act revisions represent a significant event for financial institutions across the United States. With the readiness deadline less than six months away, Cardtronics' ability to efficiently and cost-effectively prepare FirstBank's King Soopers ATM network for the new ADA regulations delivers both compliance and peace-of-mind," said Jeff Kaufman, executive vice president, FirstBank Data Corp. "While some financial institutions may be considering shrinking their ATM network to avoid the costs associated with mandated ADA compliance, our new Cardtronics relationship enables FirstBank to continue offering customers its conveniently located King Soopers ATMs and cash access when they need it most."

"With the 2012 ADA deadline quickly approaching, many financial institutions may encounter both time and financial constraints. Cardtronics, with its scale and expertise, is in an excellent position to assist banks and credit unions in achieving timely and cost-effective compliance," said Rick Updyke, president, U.S. Business Group, Cardtronics. "In choosing Cardtronics, FirstBank provides additional validation of our ability to manage financial institutions' ATM networks."

Revised ADA Regulations

An updated Americans with Disabilities Act, with changes set to take effect March 15, 2012, mandates that all U.S. ATMs meet ADA guidelines regarding accessibility to the blind or visually impaired. Notable among those guidelines: an ATM must have voice guidance capabilities. Between now and the 2012 deadline, ATMs currently without speech output capabilities may require technology upgrades, possibly including whole-unit replacement to achieve compliance. Foresight, planning and consistent technology reinvestment has placed Cardtronics in excellent position to meet these new guidelines in a timely manner.
