Aviat Networks Commits to Half-Turbine Renewable Power Purchase From Silicon Valley Power

Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the municipal electric utility for the
City of Santa Clara, announced today that Aviat Networks, Inc. will
participate in its clean renewable energy program, Santa Clara
Green Power. Aviat Networks will purchase one-half of the output of
one large-scale wind turbine on an annual basis. Aviat Networks
entered a two-year green power purchase commitment as part of its
initiative to achieve LEED Gold Certification for its new Santa
Clara facility.
Derived from clean wind and solar generation sources, Aviat
Networks' renewable power commitment -- 1504 megawatt-hours
annually -- makes Aviat Networks a member of the U.S. EPA's Green
Power Partnership for its Santa Clara facility. "We are very
pleased by the standout commitment Aviat Networks has made to
renewable energy through our green power program and their new
status as an EPA Green Power Partner," said Larry Owens of Silicon
Valley Power. Aviat Networks' clean power commitment will provide
environmental savings by preventing the release of more than 800
tons of carbon dioxide, a key greenhouse gas. This is the climate
impact equivalent to taking over 150 cars off the road for a
year.
"Conventional electricity generation is the nation's single
largest industrial source of air pollution," said EPA Green Power
Partnership Director, Blaine Collison. "Aviat Networks and other
Santa Clara organizations buying green power are providing a great
example of environmental leadership."
"The commitment to renewable power is an extension of a broad
set of initiatives we've implemented worldwide to conserve energy
and minimize our impact on the environment," said Sandy Johnson,
Facilities Manager at Aviat Networks.
