SUWANEE, Ga., Feb. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ARRIS
(Nasdaq: ARRS) announced today that Digital Video Broadcasting
(DVB) functionality will be available in April in the VIPr™ video
transcoding platform. The transition from analog to digital
continues to accelerate, expanding the addressable market for
DVB-capable devices. DVB is the technical set of standards
required for the delivery of digital television and data services
to customers in over 100 countries, including Europe, Russia, most of the Middle East and Africa, India
and Australia.
"Integrating DVB video support into the VIPr family is a
critical milestone towards meeting video requirements in many
markets around the world," said Bill
Hogan, Vice President, Advanced Video Products Product Line
Management. "Combining these new solutions into a proven platform
further expands our ability to bring international customers an
integrated, reliable and scalable transcoding solution set, which
can result in significant gains in bandwidth efficiency and system
reliability."
ARRIS VIPr dual-pass encoding solutions are extremely flexible,
supporting High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD)
transcoding or recoding in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 formats,
including SD and HD multiplexing, high density MPEG-2 intelligent
recoding, MPEG-4 to MPEG-2 transcoding, Constant Bit Rate (CBR),
for switched video applications, and Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
Statistical Multiplexing. The VIPr's advanced encoding
algorithms utilize original MPEG compression parameters – a feature
unique to the ARRIS solution – to deliver optimal quality during
video transcoding or recoding. Additionally, the VIPr's
advanced audio dial normalization feature can reduce subscriber
irritation with audio disparity between program and advertising
levels.
The VIPr Transcode and Ad Splice system is part of a family of
encoding solutions from ARRIS that includes the Encore, Quartet and
HEMi. For more information on these products, please visit:
