Ltd., today announced the successful field trials of wideband data service to customers of KCTV JEJU Broadcasting of JEJU Island, South Korea. The deployment delivers data speeds in excess of 100 Mbps to KCTV JEJU Broadcasting customers using the ARRIS FlexPath(TM) wideband data solution contained in the ARRIS Cadant(R) C4(TM) CMTS and the ARRIS Touchstone(R) WBM650B wideband modems. The high data rate enables KCTV JEJU Broadcasting to compete with DSL and FTTH providers offering similar bandwidths to support on- line gaming and video downloads. It also meets the objectives of the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication's IT 839 strategy to build a converged communications network capable of 50 or 100 Mbps per subscriber. The successful wideband field trials at KCTV JEJU Broadcasting mark the first time that a Korean cable operator has successfully delivered over 100 Mbps wideband service over HFC to commercial subscribers. It also validates the performance of the ARRIS FlexPath Pre-DOCSIS(R) 3.0 wideband data over HFC solution in field trials. It does this by bonding up to four 256-QAM DOCSIS channels using packet-based bonding. The FlexPath solution also allows cable operators to deliver new services, like High Definition IPTV over DOCSIS and ultra-fast video downloads, to their customers. FlexPath software can be installed in a CMTS with a simple software upgrade and all legacy DOCSIS modems -- 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 -- can coexist on the same downstream channels as the FlexPath modems.
