Grain futures ended mixed Monday as clear weather allowed harvest progress to resume after recent rain and snow.

Soybean contracts for November delivery rose 0.2% to $8.58 1/2 a bushel, at the Chicago Board of Trade. December corn contracts rose 0.7% and December wheat contracts fell 1.3%

"Traders will look to see whether this week's crop progress will make up some of that difference," said Dave Marshall, a farm-marketing adviser at brokerage First Choice Commodities.

Recent rain and snow in the Midwest has worried farmers as the conditions could lead to damaged crops and potential losses. But early reports suggest that the excessive moisture did not cause the harm that was previously expected, said Adam Suntken of MaxYield Cooperative.

Analysts say that this week's weather forecast will weigh on soybean futures, as farmers will likely be able to catch up on harvest progress through the weekend due to continued clear weather.

"Rallies will tend to be muted by that catch-up in soybean harvest progress," Mr. Marshall said.
