Latest installments of Red Hat’s curated, open
source languages, databases and tools are designed to pair
developer agility with production stability
Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open
source solutions, today announced the general availability of Red
Hat Software Collections 2.3, Red Hat’s newest set of open source
web development tools, dynamic languages, and databases. Red Hat
Software Collections are delivered on a more frequent release
cadence than Red Hat Enterprise Linux and are designed to bridge
developer agility and production stability. This helps to
accelerate the creation of modern applications that can then be
more confidently deployed into production.
Also available today is Red Hat Developer Toolset 6,
which helps to streamline application development on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux by giving developers access to some of the latest,
stable open source C and C++ compilers and complementary
development and performance profiling tools. Accessible through the
Red Hat Developer Program and related Red Hat Enterprise Linux
subscriptions, including the no-cost Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Developer subscription, Red Hat Developer Toolset enables
developers to compile applications once and deploy across multiple
versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Red Hat Developer Toolset 6 is now also accessible across
heterogeneous computing environments, with support for x86 servers
as well as IBM architectures with Red Hat Enterprise Linux for
Power and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for z Systems. Additionally, the
latest version of Red Hat Developer Toolset will be available for
the first time on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server for ARM Developer
Preview, which was recently rebased on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
7.3.
For developers looking to take advantage of Linux containers,
many of the most popular Red Hat Software Collections are available
as Dockerfiles and Docker-formatted images, with the latter made
available via the Red Hat Customer Portal.
New additions to Red Hat Software Collections 2.3 include:
- The MySQL 5.7 and Redis 3.2 open source
databases
- Perl 5.24 and PHP 7.0, both dynamic
open source languages (Perl 5.24 and PHP 7.0)
- Git 2.9, the latest stable version of
the open source software version control system
- Thermostat 1.6, a Java virtual machine
(JVM) monitoring tool
- Eclipse Neon (4.6.1), the latest stable
version of the Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE) -
Eclipse Neon is also now available as its own software collection
and is no longer a part of Red Hat Developer Toolset.
In addition, many collections have been updated, including:
- PHP 5.6
- Python 3.5
- Ruby 2.3
- MongoDB 3.2
Updated components within Red Hat Developer Toolset 6
include:
- The GNU Compiler Collection (GCC)
6.2.1
- The GNU Project Debugger (GDB)
7.12
- A number of updates to toolchain
components and performance tools

- elfutils (0.167)
- Valgrind (3.12)
- Dyninst (9.2.0)

deployed into production with greater confidence, as most software
collections and components are supported for three years, including
security patches and bug fixes. In addition to Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 6 and 7, applications built with Red Hat Software Collections
can also be deployed to Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host and
Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, giving more choice and
flexibility for application portfolios.

Red Hat Software Collections 2.3 and Red Hat Developer Toolset 6

Enterprise Linux subscriptions, as well as through the Red Hat
Developer Program via the no-cost Red Hat Enterprise Linux
