Curated by TIFF senior curator Andréa Picard, the Taipei Cultural Center in New York and the Toronto International Film Festival have collaborated to present a selection of seven feature films and one short film by Edward Yang. The films are presented in three sections: the urban trilogy featuring “That Day, on the Beach,” “Taipei Story,” and “Terrorizers;” the novelistic works including “Expectations,” “A Brighter Summer Day,” and “Yi Yi;” and the social satires “A Confucian Confusion” and “Mahjong.”

Edward Yang is one of the most iconic and internationally acclaimed film directors of the 1980s Taiwan New Wave Cinema. He is also the first Taiwanese to win the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival. He has received the Special Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival, the Best Director Award at the Singapore International Film Festival, as well as Lifetime Achievement Award, Best Narrative Feature, and Best Original Screenplay at the Golden Horse Awards.

International film critics, including Shelly Kraicer, director of Mercer Union's modern art center Theresa Wang, and Ryan Krahn from the cultural sector, as well as Yuetong Liu, curator of the Mulan International Film Festival, have also been invited to participate in a post-screening discussion with the audience to share their insights on Yang's works.
