GATINEAU, QC, July 8, 2024 /CNW/ - Media representatives are advised that Environment and Climate Change Canada will hold a media availability to release recent results generated by its new Rapid Extreme Weather Event Attribution system. Using this new system, they have analyzed the heat wave that took place during the week of June 17 in Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic Provinces. The rapid attribution results will show the degree to which human-caused climate change affected the likelihood of this specific heat wave.

Scientists specializing in climate research and meteorologists will be briefing and addressing questions.

The media availability will be held via Zoom. Following the briefing, media will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Media representatives are asked to register for the media availability by contacting Media Relations at Environment and Climate Change Canada to obtain more information including the Zoom link.

Note to media: When joining the media availability on Zoom, media representatives interested in asking a question are asked to change their screen names to include their full name and media outlet. Unidentified participants will not be called upon. This will be the primary opportunity for media to speak with Environment and Climate Change Canada climate researchers and meteorologists about the Rapid Extreme Weather Event Attribution System and its results for the recent heat waves.
