From May 6-8, 2024, the Bilateral Chamber orchestrated three impactful programs coinciding with the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), a premier global gathering in the energy sector. Our country spotlights this year were Guyana and Namibia. Guyana is the fastest-growing economy in the world and Namibia is Africa’s third wealthiest nation. Both countries have recently garnered the attention of international energy sector companies.

The week was kicked off with our 27th Annual Board of Advisors Private Dinner on May 6th. The evening convened US and international public and private sector leaders. General Wesley K. Clark, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, provided strategic insights on global geopolitics and commerce during a fireside chat moderated by David L. Phillips, chairman of the Bilateral Chamber’s board of advisors. Hon. Deodat Indar, Guyana's Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, delivered the keynote, emphasizing the nation's rapid expansion and investment prospects.

A roundtable on May 7th focused on Guyana’s energy security and sustainable development. T.H. Deodat Indar, Guyana's Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, and T.H. Heather Evans, U.S. Department of Commerce's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing, discussed innovative approaches and partnerships to tackle food, energy, and climate security issues.

Namibia's Ministry of Mines and Energy leadership convened at the roundtable on May 8th. T.H. Kornelia Shilunga, Deputy Minister of Mines & Energy, emphasized collaboration with US energy firms to harness the country’s resources sustainably, aligning with goals to enhance healthcare, education, and infrastructure access. Ms. Nangula Uaandja, Chairperson and CEO of Namibia's Investment Promotion and Development Board, underlined the country’s commitment to partnerships with international stakeholders, emphasizing Namibia’s political stability, low tax rates, and key investment incentives.

Namibia boasts abundant natural resources with a youthful population, holding vast untapped economic promise. Recent oil and gas discoveries have piqued global interest, positioning the nation to potentially rank 3rd in Sub-Saharan Africa and 15th globally in reserves. Acknowledging the shift toward clean energy, Namibia is committed to integrating sustainable development solutions.
