/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- When homemade rockets from the top 100
student rocketry teams in the country streak into the central
Virginia sky this weekend, employees from Goodrich Corporation
(NYSE: GR) will be watching carefully; students on two of the
finalist teams for Team American Rocketry Challenge (TARC) have
family members who work at Goodrich divisions in Monroe, N.C. and
Cleveland, Ohio. Charlie Ogino, 18, is on N.C.'s Trinity Christian
Prep high school team. Charlie's father, Guy Ogino, is director of
continuous improvement for Goodrich Customer Services in Monroe,
N.C. The Trinity Christian Prep team was in the TARC national
finals in 2008 as well. Nikolas Krieger, 18, is on one of Ohio's
North Royalton High School teams. Nikolas' father, Steve Krieger,
is an engineer at Goodrich's Landing Gear facility in Cleveland,
Ohio. Goodrich is a corporate partner of TARC through its
membership in Aerospace Industries Association (AIA); AIA is one of
TARC's key sponsoring organizations. Jennifer Pollino, senior vice
president for human resources at Goodrich, said, "As one of the top
aerospace and defense employers in the world, Goodrich is proud to
see the children of our employees pursuing these scientific
endeavors. We are pleased to work with AIA and TARC to promote the
world of aerospace to young people." TARC - the world's largest
rocket contest - takes place May 16, 2009 at Great Meadow in The
Plains, Va. The final competition gives middle and high school
students a chance to earn part of a total prize package of $60,000
in scholarships and other prizes. The teams design, build and
launch model rockets with a raw-egg payload that must return to the
ground unbroken. This year's contest goals are an altitude of 750
feet and a flight time of 45 seconds. The rockets must transport
the egg laid horizontally to mimic the position of an astronaut.
