SANTA CLARA, Calif. and BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Carrier Ethernet pioneer Riverstone Networks (RSTN.PK) and its newest reseller, Dynavar Networking, today announced that they have been selected by Remi Communications for an innovative, new end-to-end Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) network. The next-generation greenfield network will use the Riverstone solution to deliver advanced voice, video and data services to businesses. Remi plans its initial network deployment in western Pennsylvania followed quickly by expansion across the Commonwealth. Remi's longer-range goal is to expand its advanced network throughout the Northeast U.S. Remi will use the Riverstone 15008 Ethernet Edge Routers and later add the Riverstone 15100 Ethernet Access Routers to provide the network's multi- service infrastructure, delivering the rich bandwidth required for such commercial end-user applications as video conferencing, data networking and storage as well as Remi's Hosted IP-PBX and messaging solutions. The network will also employ a variety of last mile technologies -- wireless, DSL and fiber -- to give Remi's enterprise customers a greater range of service and redundancy options. Remi will utilize Dynavar's engineering support services in such areas as project management for collocation build-out and technology deployment timeline coordination. Taking advantage of the reliability derived from the Riverstone 15000 product line's ROS-X modular operating system, Remi will be able to provide its enterprise customers with high-quality, guaranteed Service Level Agreements (SLAs). "This network will redefine enterprises' service expectations, making excellence the standard, not the exception," said Dave Malfara, CEO, Remi Communications. "To do so, the network must not only offer the most sophisticated services, but the most reliable and manageable services as well. The strength of Riverstone's industry-leading carrier Ethernet technology along with the ability to scale our collocation buildout quickly through the use of Dynavar engineering support will allow us to meet SLAs far beyond those offered by the competition today." Using lines leased from the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC), Remi currently offers a variety of products and patent-pending service packages designed to save businesses upwards of 30 percent on their monthly service bills. With its own Ethernet-based network, Remi will be able to deliver an even greater array of new-world business services while maintaining its hallmark price levels. "Carrier Ethernet is fundamentally changing how service providers compete, making it easier for smaller companies to enter markets and allowing established providers to inexpensively extend their services to new markets," said Dan Middleton, General Manager and Vice President of Sales, North America, Riverstone Networks. "The emergence of powerful, carrier-grade platforms like the Riverstone 15000 family is making it possible for carriers of all sizes to offer high-quality services."
