Centrica PLC (CNA.LN) said Thursday it has received confirmation from the European Commission that the proposed acquisition of Venture Production PLC (VPC.LN) will be assessed by the Commission under the EC Merger Regulation and it has lodged its formal notification with the Commission.

MAIN FACTS:

-Centrica Resources, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centrica, expects that the European Commission merger review process will be concluded by Aug. 26 in accordance with the European Commission's prescribed timetable.

-Offer for Venture initially remains open until 1200 GMT Aug. 13.
