                                 AGM STATEMENT

At the Annual General Meeting of Thistle Hotels Plc today, the Chairman Rodney
Price said:

"I am pleased to announce that turnover reached #87.0 million for the first 16
weeks of the current financial year.  On a like for like basis this represents
an increase of over 6%.  The Company's high operating leverage has been
further improved by initiatives to reduce the cost base.  This, together with
the increase in turnover, has led to a satisfactory increase in profitability
over the period.

Average room rates continued to strengthen, up 10% on last year.  Occupancy
was down by 1%, reflecting the shortfall in rooms sold to European and Asian
guests due to the appreciation of sterling, largely offset by increases in
North American and domestic business.

Following the arrival of Ian Burke as Chief Executive on April 20, he and the
management team are undertaking a review of all areas of the Company's
strategy and operations, building on the work initiated over the last few
months.  In the meantime, progress continues to be made in relation to
rationalising the portfolio, ongoing refurbishment of the Group's hotels and
upgrading information technology systems.

Your Board is confident that provided trading conditions continue in line with
expectations, the Group's profitability will again improve in 1998".
