                     Notification of Major Interests
                                    
Pursuant to Part V of the Companies Act 1989 the board of Ted Baker  PLC
was  notified on 1 August 1997 that as at 31 July 1997 Standard Life had
a  material  interest in 1,245,000 Ordinary Shares of  10p  representing
3.017% of the company's issued share capital.

As announced on 22 October 1997 Standard Life purchased 250,000 ordinary
shares  on  20  October  1997  which took  their  resultant  holding  to
1,745,000  Ordinary  Shares which represented 4.229%  of  the  company's
issued share capital.

The  board  was further notified on 28 March 1998 that on 26 March  1998
Standard life purchased 90,000 Ordinary Shares increasing their  holding
to  2,140,000  which  represents 5.186% of the  company's  issued  share
capital.

The  shares  are  registered in the name of Bank of Scotland  (Stanlife)
London Nominees Limited.
