Encouraging Gold Intersections from initial Drilling of GONDOJA Property
Mano River Resources is pleased to announce encouraging results from the first
phase diamond drilling of its GONDOJA property in western Liberia. Four of
the five holes drilled, for a total of 650m, intersected gold mineralisation
as follows:
Drill hole Interval in metres g/t gold
GD-1 38-46m 8m 1.9
GD-2 6-14m 8m 0.7
GD-4 74-104m 30m 3.9
incl
92-104m 12m 7.0
GD-5 38-40m 2m 2.0
and
58-64m 6m 1.2
The host rock to the gold mineralisation is a strongly sheared
mafic-ultramafic of presumed komatiitic origin, the gold itself being
associated with disseminated sulphides, principally pyrrhotite, with minor
pyrite and quartz-scheelite veining. Occasional galena is observed, the
prospect having been the subject of base metal investigation some twenty five
years ago by Preussag.
Hole GD-4, which returned the best intersection of 30m @ 3.9 g/t, was drilled
at -75 degrees beneath the main artisanal pit. The higher grade sub-section
in hole GD-4, i.e. 12m @ 7.0 g/t gold, compares well with the 6m @ 10.1 g/t
obtained from a channel sample in artisanal surface workings. The zone is open
to the west and at depth. Follow up work will involve extending the soil
geochemical grid and additional trenching, prior to further drilling
The procedure followed with all of Mano's drill core and geochemistry samples
is that they are shipped to the SGS Laboratory in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where
both sample preparation and fire assay are performed. In addition to
systematic check assaying carried out by SGS, one in ten of the samples is
further check assayed by an independent laboratory in Ireland, with excellent
correlation to date in values obtained.
Mano aims to create shareholder value through the identification, exploration
and development of high quality gold and diamond deposits in the West African
Mano River Union countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. The Company,
having made its pioneering entry into Liberia in 1995, is currently
concentrating its exploration efforts on its extensive licences in the west of
the country, where the principal targets comprise Archaean greenstone
sequences considered comparable to those of the Lake Victoria Gold Province in
Tanzania, together with potentially diamondiferous kimberlites related to the
well-known diamond province in neighbouring Sierra Leone.
