                            Statement re Luminar plc


Following speculation, on 17 March 2006, Mintgate Investments Limited
("Mintgate"), an investment vehicle led by Prestbury Investment Holdings
Limited, announced that it was contemplating making an approach to Luminar plc
("Luminar"), although no final decision had been made.  After a period of
internal discussion, Mintgate announces that it has no intention of making an
offer for Luminar at this time.

For the purposes of Rule 2.8 of The City Code on Takeovers and Mergers, Mintgate
reserves the right to make or participate in an offer for Luminar within the
next six months with the agreement or recommendation of the board of Luminar, or

in the event that a third party announces a firm intention to make an offer for
Luminar, or if there is an announcement by Luminar of a "whitewash" proposal or
of a reverse takeover.
