                 FIRST SHIPMENT DEPARTS FROM BERONG NICKEL MINE

Berong Nickel Corporation, in which the Company has an 18.7% interest, has
advised that the first shipment of laterite nickel ore has departed from the
Berong anchorage. The trial metallurgical shipment of approximately 19,000
tonnes is less than the anticipated volume of 40,000 tonnes. This is due to a
combination of factors including the ship charter period expiring, intermittent
sea swells making loading difficult or preventing loading, and the normal
teething problems associated with start of a new operation. From the customer's
perspective, the volume is more than sufficient for metallurgical testing
purposes.



The next shipment is planned for later this month. Sea and weather conditions
are expected to improve from late February through to early June, the calmer
transition period between the monsoon wind changes. In the meantime, planning
and scoping studies for the new Dangla road and the trestle conveyor loading
system are well underway. These facilities will enable increased volumes as well
as the capability to ship at all times except during typhoon periods.



A total of approximately 100,000 tonnes of laterite ore is now stockpiled at the
coast ready for shipment. Mining and hauling of the ore is running at the
planned rate of approximately 2,000 tonnes per day, and will gradually ramp-up
to 4,000 tonnes per day during the dry season. The commercial mining area is
currently being developed.



Laterite nickel ore demand continues to far outstrip supply with prices rising
for all grade categories above 1% nickel.
