            The Hartstone Group PLC ("Hartstone" or "the Company")


                                Share Buy-Back


The board of Hartstone announce that, pursuant to the passing by shareholders
of the resolution proposed at the Company's Annual General Meeting held on 29
August 2001 authorising the Company to repurchase shares, the Company
yesterday repurchased 225,000 Cumulative Convertible Redeemable Preference
Shares of 10p each at a price of 78.5 pence per share ("the Buy-Back
Preference Shares"). The Buy-Back Preference Shares will be cancelled
following the above repurchase thereby reducing the issued preference share
capital of the Company to 9,998,173 Cumulative Convertible Redeemable
Preference Shares of 10p each.
