                           THE HARTSTONE GROUP PLC

The downturn in the US retail sector, particularly since September, has
adversely affected sales at Etienne Aigner, Hartstone's principal trading
subsidiary. The half year results, which are due to be announced next month,
will therefore show a sharp drop in profits.
