    First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. Announces Appointment

    CALGARY, Oct. 18 /CNW/ - First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. today announced

the following appointment by the Board of Directors:

    Ms. Eleanor J. Barker is appointed Vice President Investor Relations

effective immediately. Ms. Barker has 16 years experience in the investment

business, having worked as an oil and gas investment analyst since 1986

advising institutions, corporations and private clients. Recent areas of work

have included junior domestic, junior international, senior Canadian energy

and pipeline equities. Prior thereto, Ms. Barker worked in the corporate

financial group of Gulf Canada and had 5 years of operations and business

experience with Imperial Oil Limited. She graduated from Queen's University

with an Honours B. Sc. (Chemistry) and holds an MBA from the University of

Western Ontario. Eleanor has been the Canadian Director, U. S. National

Association of Petroleum Investment Analysts, 1998-2002 and President of the

Canadian Association of Petroleum Investment Analysts 1996-7 and 2001-2002.

    First Calgary is preparing to drill its first well in Algeria and

believes Ms. Barker's extensive experience in the investment business will be

extremely valuable as the Company enters this next stage of development.
