First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. announces the appointment of Gar Emerson as
Non-Executive Chairman of the Board

    CALGARY, March 10 /CNW/ - First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. ("First Calgary"
or the "Company) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Non-Executive
Chairman, Mr. Harry. Garfield (Gar) Emerson, Q.C, to the Company's Board,
effective immediately. Mr. Charles Pitman, the current Chairman, will step
down as a member of the Board due to personal family reasons.

    Mr. Emerson, aged 67, has extensive strategic advisory experience,
including in investment banking, securities and corporate law and corporate
finance. He is a corporate director and the Principal of Emerson Advisory, an
independent business and financial advisory company providing insight to
organizations on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, governance,
restructurings and strategy. He is a member of the board of directors of CAE
Inc., Canadian Tire Corporation Ltd., Sentry Select Capital Corp. and
Wittington Investments, Ltd., and is the immediate past Chairman of Rogers
Communications Inc.
    Mr. Emerson is a certified director of the Institute of Corporate
Directors and a member of the Directors in Residence faculty of The Directors
College sponsored by the DeGroote School of Business (McMaster University) and
the Conference Board of Canada.
    From 2001 to 2006, Mr Emerson was National Chair of Fasken Martineau
DuMoulin LLP, a national Canadian law firm with overseas offices, where he
continues to be a partner.
    From 1990 to 2001, Mr. Emerson was the President and Chief Executive
Officer of NM Rothschild & Sons Canada Limited, an investment banking firm
affiliated with NM Rothschild & Sons Limited, London, England. While with NM
Rothschild Canada, Mr. Emerson provided investment banking and financial
advisory services in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance,
restructurings, and privatizations.
    Prior to 1990, Mr. Emerson was a senior partner of the Toronto law firm,
Davies, Ward & Beck, engaged in securities and corporate law and mergers and
acquisitions.
    Mr. Emerson has frequently participated as a panelist and speaker and has
published numerous papers and articles on governance, securities and corporate
law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance.

    Mr. Emerson has been but is no longer a director or partner of the
following companies or partnerships in the past 5 years: Canada Deposit
Insurance Corporation, Rogers Communications Inc., Rogers Wireless
Communications Inc., Rogers Cable Inc., Rogers Media Inc. and University of
Toronto Asset Management Corporation. Mr. Emerson resigned as a director of
Livent Inc. in 1998. Livent Inc. voluntarily filed for creditor protection in
Canada and the United States within a year of such resignation.
