FATALITY AT STRATONI MINE 
 
 
15 October 2009 - European Goldfields Limited (AIM: EGU / TSX: EGU) ("European 
Goldfields" or the "Company") reports with great sadness the death of a miner 
due to an underground accident at the Mavres Petres mine yesterday. A rockfall 
occurred during roof maintenance 162 metres underground, killing one worker and 
injuring a second. The mine was closed briefly due to investigation of the 
accident by Hellas Gold and government authorities and will re-open on Monday 
after the funeral. The Company offers its deepest condolences to the family, 
friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

Greece - European Goldfields holds a 95% interest in Hellas Gold S.A. Hellas

Romania. In July 2008, the National Agency of Mineral Resources approved the 
technical feasibility study in support of its permit application and issued a 
new mining permit for the Certej project.
