                            CHAIRMAN'S AGM STATEMENT



At the Company's Annual General Meeting held today, Mr Alex Hammond-Chambers,
Chairman of Dobbies Garden Centres PLC, made the following statement:

"I would like to update shareholders on current trading. Just after Christmas we
announced that like for like sales over the Christmas period were 20% ahead of
those of last year.

Over the 24 weeks so far this year we have experienced good weather conditions
compared with bad weather in the previous year and as a consequence of this and
of continuing improvements in our operations, the like for like sales
performance has continued to date."
