The Company gives notice that it has received notification today from
Chesterton Investment Services Ltd, the trustee to an employee benefit trust
established by the Company for the purposes of share plans for employees (the
"Trustee"), that on 15 December 2000 it had made a market purchase of a total
of 550,000 Ordinary shares at a price of 37.5p.
 
The executive directors of Chesterton are to be regarded as having a technical
interest in shares held by the trust. Following this announcement the interest
of the employee benefit trust will be 7,568,817 Ordinary shares representing
8.948% of the issued share capital of the company.

No additional interests arise on the part of the directors by reason of the
purchase referred to in this announcement.
