Caledonian Trust PLC ("Caledonian") notifies you as follows:

On 29 October 1998 Messrs Orr MacQueen WS acting on behalf of Leafrealm Limited
("Leafrealm") a company owned and controlled by Ian Douglas Lowe, a Director of
Caledonian, has pursuant to an offer by Leafrealm for the whole of the share
capital of Caledonian (other than the 5,191,975 Ordinary Shares of 20p each
owned and controlled by Mr I D Lowe) acquired a total of 3,730,107 Ordinary
Shares of Caledonian, as detailed below:

(i)       Disclosure of the transactions was made to Caledonian on
          29 October 1998 after business hours.

(ii)      The transactions were effected on 29 October 1998

(iii)     The securities acquired were Ordinary Shares of 20p each in
          the capital of Caledonian.  The shares were purchased by way
          of a general offer made to all shareholders.

(iv)      Following the acquisition Mr Lowe and his connected persons
          are interested in a total of 8,927,582 shares or 72.6% of
          Caledonian's issued Ordinary Share capital (12,289,495 
          Ordinary Shares).  In addition Mr Lowe has options under
          the Executive Share Option Scheme of Caledonian to acquire
          60,000 ordinary shares at a price of 60.0p each and 200,000
          Ordinary Shares at a price of 67.5p each.
