                     APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Capital Bars Plc (formerly Break for the Border Group Plc) announces that
Robert Breare has been appointed as a non-executive director with effect from
today.

Robert is chief executive of Rhesus Holdings Limited, the holding company of
Alchemy's brewing and retail interests comprising over 800 pubs.  Previously
he was a founder and chief executive of Arcadian International Plc, the hotel
and leisure owner and operator which grew from a net worth of #5 million in
1991 to a value of #100 million in 1998 when it was taken over by Patriot
Hotels.

Robert Gunlack, chairman, commented:
