Italian utility company Enel SpA (ENEL.MI) has closed the multi-billion euro bond it is selling with requests worth over EUR20 billion, a person familiar with the situation said Thursday.

Rome-based Enel, which is expected to announce later Thursday the exact amount of bonds it will issue, according to a press report, is planning to offer bonds denominated both in euros and sterling.

It has hired Barclays (BCS), Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBV), Calyon and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (RBS), Banco Santander (STD) and Societe Generale SA to lead manage the deal.
