RECORD GROWTH IN LINES AT ATLANTIC TELECOM
QUARTER ENDED 30 JUNE 1999
Atlantic Telecom Group PLC, the innovative provider of high quality,
value-added telecommunications services, is pleased to announce its
telecommunications operating statistics for its first quarter, ended
30 June 1999.
Highlights
* Total lines installed and pending installation have risen
over 28% to 66,993, a record increase of 14,781 in the quarter
* Directly connected network lines have increased sharply by
6,197 to 32,201
* Penetration continues to increase with business
penetration now at 4.7% and residential penetration at 2.5%,
measured across all the networks
* The "Crest" indirect service has had an outstanding
quarter with lines increasing over 85% to 16,137 lines
* Atlantic Logicall has increased its lines to 18,655 from
17,663 at 31 March 1999
Graham J Duncan, Executive Chairman of Atlantic Telecom, commented:
" This quarter has been a very significant one for the Group, with a
continuing acceleration in customers and customer lines across all
areas of the business. It is particularly satisfying to see a
continuing growth in penetration across the networks. The high take
up this quarter is, we believe, due to a number of factors:
increasing recognition of the Atlantic brand, which is now well
established in our target markets; an increasing level of sales
coming from recommendations from existing customers; and a focused
strategy to attract customers through an indirect Crest connection in
the first instance. This indirect strategy gives us the opportunity
in the future to convert Crest customers to a direct connection as
the networks expand."

(1) Estimated homes passed or estimated business premises passed
is the Company's estimate of the residential homes or business
premises seen by the direct networks which are capable of
connection to a base station excluding certain multiple dwelling
units which the Company does not presently serve.
(2) Residential or business customer lines represent the number
of lines which are connected and in service, and the number of
lines for which customers, where applicable, have contracted for
service in advance but are not yet connected.
(3) Penetration rate of estimated homes or estimated business
premises passed is calculated by dividing the number of
residential customers or business customers on the given date by
the estimated homes or estimated business premises passed as of
such date, expressed as a percentage.
(4) The average lines per customer is calculated by dividing the
number of lines on a given date by the number of customers on that
date.
(5) Churn is calculated by dividing net disconnections (total
disconnections less the number of disconnected accounts for which
service is later restored and disconnections for customers moving
premises and reconnecting at their new premises) in a period by
the average number of customers in the period (calculated as the
simple average of the number of customers at the end of each month
during the period.) Churn is expressed on a rolling twelve-month
basis, meaning that the churn is calculated over the twelve months
ended on 31 December 1998, 31 March 1999 and 30 June 1999.
