ATLANTIC TELECOM INTRODUCES LONDON TO ITS
LOCAL CALL AREA FOR CUSTOMERS
Atlantic Telecommunications Ltd, a wholly owned
subsidiary of Atlantic Telecom Group PLC, the innovative
Scottish telecommunications company, will introduce
London (all 0171 and 0181 numbers) to its local call area
from 1st October 1997 - allowing customers to make all
calls to the city for the cost of a local call.
This latest move extends the highly successful, Scotland
as your local call area concept which the company has
provided to customers since its launch in Scotland last
year. London is the first destination outside Scotland to
be introduced as a local area to customers.
Commenting, Graham J Duncan, executive chairman of
Atlantic Telecom Group PLC said: "We are delighted to
offer yet another benefit to the Atlantic Telecom
service. One of the great advantages our customers
experience is being able to call relatives and friends
all over Scotland for the cost of a local call - now they
will be able to do the same with London.
"London is also an important destination for Scottish
business calls, and our customers will now be able to
consider London as part of their local area."
This innovation is the latest in a series of recent
developments within Atlantic Telecom. The company
recently launched Crest, its indirect telephone service
which allows BT line users to benefit from Atlantic
Telecom's cost-saving tariffs.
The unique Crest service causes no inconvenience to the
user. Atlantic Telecom provides a small single line box
free, which can easily be fitted to a telephone
connection point and phone. There is no rental for the
Crest service, although the BT rental remains the same
and there is no need to change an existing telephone
number.
Graham J Duncan continues: "Our service is a unique
combination of innovation and cost-saving. Both these
latest developments illustrate this. Atlantic Telecom is
pioneering the dismantling of barriers between distance
and cost, so that it is no longer the case that the
further the call destination, the higher the price. With
our service, distance is not so important, which provides
a real tangible benefit to the customer."
