ATLANTIC TELECOM GROUP PLC
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
At today's (28th August) Annual General Meeting, Graham J
Duncan, Executive Chairman of Atlantic Telecom Group PLC
said:
"As detailed in the last quarterly statistics for our
telephony operation, the capacity issues on certain base
stations that developed following our successful launch
have been focused on as a priority. Upgrades have been
carried out and completed to all of the sites in the first
two phases of our build. This has been completed ahead of
schedule and has relieved pressure on the network. The
increased capacity has been assisted by the installation of
a new software upgrade which has brought greater efficiency
to all base stations.
"A further software modification to deliver 64kb data
channels to any customer has been delivered from our main
supplier, Tadiran Telecommunications Ltd, and is currently
undergoing in-house testing which is proving satisfactory.
We are on target to launch a high speed Internet service by
the end of this quarter.
"The third phase of the network roll out in Glasgow is
proceeding on schedule, with the first sites now
operational. The target of 42 base stations by the end of
the current quarter is on schedule.
"The new promotional campaign began in August, with five
new television commercials detailing some of the key
features of the service, (two lines for the price of one;
Scotland as a local call; Discounts on ten frequently
dialed numbers; voicemail as standard; call forward as
standard). The commercials will air on Scottish Television
and Channel 4 Scotland in a targeted campaign that will run
through to December. Following the launch of this
campaign, enquiries are running at their highest ever level
which is most encouraging.
"The group has also announced the launch of an indirectly
connected service using BT's network, offering customers
across Scotland the ability to benefit from our innovative
tariff structure. The service, branded "CREST", will be
launched using an electronic "smart box" which has now
completed all the formal external approval tests required
prior to connection to telecommunications networks. This
equipment has been created and developed by the group. It
represents a unique platform from which to gain greater
penetration into our target markets with the ability to
cover a much wider area than could initially be achieved
from the radio network."
