Asterand plc Attains ISO 9001:2008 Certification

Asterand plc (LSE: ATD), a leading provider of human tissue-based services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies engaged in drug discovery research, today announced that its Detroit facility has received ISO 9001:2008 certification for the quality management system which governs its biorepository processes. These processes encompass all activities involved in the procurement of specimens from donor sites, the processing and validation of specimen suitability and the delivery of the samples to clients.

The International Standards Organization (ISO) has long been recognized as the global benchmark for quality assurance procedures. ISO 9001:2008 provides a set of rigorous practices to ensure that a company's processes are effective in producing quality products and are consistently monitored and continually improved. ISO certification requires evaluation by an independent, accredited auditing group. Asterand received its certificate from BSI Group Americas.

The XpressBANK(TM) biorepository contains several hundred thousand specimens from a broad range of therapeutic areas and with diverse ethnic representation. The ProCURE(TM) service offers clients unparalleled access to the Company's network of collaborative donor sites for the custom collection of human tissues and clinical data to meet special requirements. This includes the collection of follow-up data related to patient outcome. In addition to biospecimen procurement, the facility provides services such as RNA /DNA extraction, specimen sectioning and tissue microarray creation. All products and services offered by the Detroit facility fall under the ISO 9001:2008 designation.
