New Contract Wins
ALPHA Airports Group Plc, the UK's largest supplier of integrated airport
services, today announces a number of important contract wins, supporting its
strategy of expanding its successful travel retail brands both at airports and
into other UK travel related markets.
RoadChef
ALPHA Travel Retail has reached agreement with RoadChef for a 10 year contract
to operate the CTN (confectionery, tobacco, newspaper) stores at RoadChef's UK
network of 20 motorway service areas operating 28 separate outlets. RoadChef
has 27% of the UK motorway service market. The contract is effective
immediately.
ALPHA's CTN business currently has 30 outlets at 13 airport locations; its new
World News CTN format has already opened successfully at several of these
airports, including Heathrow and Luton. The World News format will be
introduced initially at five RoadChef sites and will then be progressively
rolled out to all of RoadChef's motorway service areas. The contract will add
some #35 million per annum to sales revenues. In addition to World News,
ALPHA will also open four Drug Stores and two Kidz stores; these concept
shops are already established at ALPHA's traditional airport retail locations.
TBI
Alpha Travel Retail has also been awarded a contract from TBI plc to run TBI's
retail operations at Belfast International, Cardiff International and
Stockholm Skavsta airports. The agreement, for a minimum of five years,
covers both landside and airside retailing and includes Travel Value/Duty &
Tax Free shopping, World News (CTN) and destination-specific gift shops. The
contract is expected to add some #11 million per annum to sales revenues and
is effective immediately.
Commenting today, Kevin Abbott, Chief Executive of ALPHA Airports said:
"I am delighted that we are able to announce these important contract wins
which represent an important step in ALPHA's strategy to capitalise on growth
opportunities in the dynamic travel marketplace. The RoadChef deal marks a
major step in our expansion strategy in the wider UK travel market and the TBI
contract award is a significant vote of confidence in the breadth and depth of
our travel retailing skills "
