ALPBACH, Austria--The Austrian telecommunication company Telekom
Austria AG (TKA.VI, TKAGY) will begin holding talks with Dutch
telecommunications company KPN soon to discuss possible synergies,
Telekom Austria Chief Executive Hannes Ametsreiter said Tuesday
evening.
He noted the companies have a common shareholder, America Movil
S.A.B. de C.V. (AMX.MX, AMOV, AMX). Earlier this summer, America
Movil made its entrance into the European market by buying shares
in the Dutch and Austrian telecommunications companies.
Telekom Austria has been holding talks with America Movil to
discuss synergies between them and they are going well, Mr.
Ametsreiter said, repeating earlier comments.
While the executive declined to comment on the content of the
talks directly, saying they involved internal company strategy, he
did say he hoped to be able to speak about "some areas" at the
company's capital markets day in December.
America Movil holds a 6.75% share in Telekom Austria. America
Movil investor Carlos Slim has agreed to purchase up to just over
20% of Telekom Austria. The purchase is still awaiting regulatory
approval in Austria.
