Viyya Technologies, Inc. (PINK SHEETS:VYON), developer and marketer of information management systems, has identified specific shortcomings in many proposed plans for making emergency information available to students, parents, faculty and staff in colleges, universities and other institutional settings. The special needs of schools and various programs and institutions cant be met with knee-jerk reactions and a one-size-fits-all approach. We have learned a lot in the past few weeks about what works and what wont work in emergency situations, explained John Bay, CEO of Viyya. We know that every environment has its own unique problems and challenges in times of crisis. Informing or warning hundreds or thousands of people cant be accomplished using a simplistic off-the-shelf approach. Attempting to use cell phones to warn students, staff and faculty, for example, fails to take note of the fact that many people turn off their phones in classrooms, libraries and labs and that many of the phones dont work in gyms, pools or technology buildings where signal interference is common. Cell phones are great devices, but they do have their limitations and limitations arent what you want in an emergency. In recent weeks Viyya has met with representatives of dozens of educational institutions with special needs, who see the EAIP as the necessary solution. The Austine School of the Vermont Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is one example of a campus with hundreds of students and hundreds more for whom help is provided, off campus, at a variety of locations. A New York college administrator estimated only 6,000 of approximately 15,000 people on its campus might be reachable using cell phones. Viyya launched the Emergency Alert Information Portal last month in the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech University. EAIP is an application that provides timely distribution of information both on a routine daily basis and, in times of crisis, in an emergency mode. The system instantly transmits alerts to thousands of users of PCs, laptops, notebooks, PDAs, and phones via e-mail or SMS text messaging, and supports collaborative information exchange through chat rooms, discussion groups, and topic-specific forums. The application can also include visual attention-getting features, such as colored flashing lights. The Viyya Information Portal and the Viyya engine assist first responders, emergency management and campus security officials in crisis situations, as well as provide alerts, notification, and situation updates to students, parents, faculty, administration and campus security personnel. The EAIP is web-based, timely and a logical application that personalizes and customizes information for maximum impact, notes John Bay. Information originating from a variety of sources can be displayed, filtered, organized and disseminated through portal technology and shared by the parties concerned. It is a highly sophisticated intelligence sharing application that can be used to monitor and share security information that may involve threats and a variety of dangerous or disruptive situations. About Viyya Technologies Viyya Technologies (Pink Sheets: VYON) is the developer and marketer of the world's most advanced, Web 2.0 information management application.
